Well I did something today that I have thought of doing many times but just couldn’t do it. Why today was different I don’t know, but now that I have achieved this I can’t believe it took me so long. What was it you ask? Well……..
I went to the movies on my own…. pathetic isn’t it, but it was something I couldn’t do unless I went with a friend. So needless to say there are many times when I desperately wanted to go to a movie but DH or one of the kids weren’t interested so I just waited till it came out in DVD.
But I really, really wanted to see Julie and Julia so today was the day. I grabbed a large latte and went to the 11.40am session. There were about 12 people in the theatre, one other woman on her own, everyone else in pairs.
What a movie. I was totally engrossed whilst it was on and unaware of anyone else in the theatre. Absolutely brilliant movie, loved every single minute of it. I came out of the theatre with a smile like a Cheshire cat that I could feel across my face but I couldn’t stop it. I had a really light feeling throughout and I wanted to cook. I went to the bookshop at the bottom of the escalator from the movies and there was “Mastering the Art of French Cooking”, Julia Child’s book. It was $50.00 so I think it will have to be suggested as a Christmas present that maybe the kids could give me together.
• COVET (verb)
The verb COVET has 1 sense:
1. wish, long, or crave for (something, especially the property of another person)
So finally I have something that I can say I “Covet”, and sadly its just a cook book but a good cook book.

And if you haven’t seen the movie yet, go, hopefully you will enjoy it as much as I did. Go here http://www.sonypictures.com.au/movies/julieandjulia/ to see the trailer.
The other great thing that I can tell you is the Jennifer who I was a Stitchers Angel for has let me know that she has received her parcel which is great as I was worried it may have gone missing. These are what I made for her.
Of course the roses theme- so inside the carry bag was a coffee mug with a hugger and coaster and a journal all covered in roses fabrics.
Hugs in Stitching, Deb xx

I loved this movie! I am glad that you saw it and enjoyed it, too. Not so bad seeing a movie by yourself, now is it?! Atta girl!
That's it. if it's still on this weekend, I'm going. I've heard mixed reviews but I think It's one for the girls. I might get inspired to get in the kitchen, lol. So glad your gift arrived safe and sound, they look terrific too.
I did the same thing as you.....went by myself to see the same movie you did......I know my DH would not have liked it. I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Karen
good for you going by yourself! That was a fun movie but I know I will never make aspic or lobster so the book is probably not for me. I do think of her every time I chop onions.
I want to see that movie too but now it won't be until it comes out on DVD. I've gone to the movies by myself a couple times--the most recent was Star Trek and then a few days later I made the DH go with me so I could see it again.
I haven't seen this movie yet, but it is on my wish list of things to do in the next few days. And, yes I have braved the world and gone on my own, quite an achievement really isn't it Deb. I'm not sure that I can aspire to cooking heights like that however!
Hi Dewb...I saw the movie a few weeks ago with a friend...I loved it too! What a confident independant woman you are to go happy in your own company!
It is so liberating going to the movies by yourself! Good on you. Isn't that movie the greatest? I loved it. I'm glad you got to see it. xxx
Oh - I want to see that movie too! I've been to the movies a few times on my own, always because it is too girly for my husband. Although last time it was because it was a kids movie (Enchanted!) to which I was embarrassed to ask anyone else to come along. But it does mean I can get a choc-top AND popcorn and no-one will ever know!
I have often thought of going to the movies by myself, but for one reson or another haven't. Maybe this movie is one that I shall take in by myself, unfortunately it will be some time before the movie finds its way over to the Coast, however you have inspired my solo viewing when it does arrive.
Let's hope the book finds its way down the chimney at Christmas :)
I just gotta see this movie!..
It's s girlie movie, I know Dh would not like to go...so I'll have to wait for the DVD.
Julia ♥
I'm glad that you enjoyed yourself! I'll have to wait until the DVD comes out to see this one...it's already on my NetFlix list though.
Deb....you did great!! I often go to the movies by myself if there's something I really want to see as well!! With a friend or loved one is better....but!! I loved the movie as well. When I came out I dashed to the local library and asked if they had a copy of the cookbook...or could they see if the state library had one!! They looked at me as if I was nuts!! No such luck!! Ah well...I was hoping there was a book about the Julie as well.. Didn't it say that the movie was based on her book as well. The librarian thought I was totally gone by this stage...so I went home with a big smile...because I loved the movie and had had a great day. Rainbow smiles....Gloria
What lovely rose gifts you sent. It's amazing how some things can arrive quickly but others take so long. Maybe it was customs?
I'm an awful cook but I did get a cook book for Christmas. It's called Cherry Cake and Ginger Beer by Jane Brocket. I've always fancied Enid Blyton or Milly Molly Mandy food.

Yay for you Deb!!! That's what I do too ... if no-one wants to see the movie with me I wait for it to come on the box. I should take a leaf from your book!!!
I haven't heard a word my Angel yet so I don't think my gifties have been received. I've been watching her blog, so hopefully soon :o).
Have a super day!!
Hugs,
Joy :o)
Glad to hear you enjoyed the film, as I'm going to see it on Monday and really looking forward to it - isn't Meryl Streep brilliant!!
Love what you made for Jennifer by the way - very pretty:0)
I used to live in Christchurch and go to the movies at the Arts Centre by myself quite often, it was my little treat, a coffee, a bar of dark chocolate and something captivating no-one else I knew was interested in seeing!!!! I' forgotten those days until I read your post!
Hi, I went twice and loved it as much the second time as the first. If we are on a reduction plan, we had better not start cooking our way through her book. It has been a great week. Thanks again for the uplifting email.
Hello Deb, when I read the first part of your post, that is exactly what happened to me...I asked Jess, then little siser and then DH...no one wanted to go....so most times I miss out on the movie..well the other week I was miffed and went myself...and throughly enjoyed Julie and Julia...now if only we lived closer...I would have gone with you...Warm Regards Lyn
I went to see "The Green Mile" alone; that's the only movie I can remember going alone to. Vann was at hunting camp and I just decided to go.
Hey Deb - it is a great movie isn't it - so proud of you going by yourself. I was like you too wanting to get the cookbook and the novel Julie & Julia - tho cost of puppy kind of took over LOL :) Hugs Jxx
